Apparently fake news is not libelous or illegal.

From the ruling:

"the "questionable" "editing choices," the court said, weren't sufficiently injurious to reputation to qualify as libelous (whether or not they conveyed a false message)."

The lesson is backstop media interviews with your own contemporaneous recordings.

I am in the camp that says that the VCDL’s “alternate recording of the truth” permanently damaged Katie Couric’s serious journalism career forever and that the whole apology fracas by Couric was possibly seen by more people than ever saw the dumb “documentary” she put out. So a net win?

The same smart move that Phi Van Cleve undertook to record the agenda-driven Couric and expose her as a fraud is the same PVC who unfortunately left his spider sense at home the day he ran into that comedian Borat.

It shows you can never let your guard down.

Currently to the tune of $10M a year. Couric's $15M a year salary and career apogee was years before this incident. 99% of the country doesn't even remember it. The 1% that do never watched or consumed her product anyway. Regardless, it's not like the majority of this country is sympathetic to gun rights. Most go "meh", and the courts dismissing the suits just do more to stipulate that.

PVC was used as entertainment a few years before Borat with John Oliver.
Both those incidents are pretty much in the ether as well. A few were calling for PVC to vanish after Borat, and that folly ended fairly quick too.

Funny I thought libelous was the spreading false information.

The point is in the era of fake news NBC style (heavy edits) is do your own recording to preserve the facts not the slanted POV the media wants to portray.

I hope no one is defending her behavior or minimizing the unprofessionalism no matter its impact or lack thereof

I'm generally not too upset when people lose in court while claiming libel or slander. Because if the bars for those victories get lowered too much, you can BET that that weapon will be used far more often and for more destructively by the left against us, than by us against them. Use tools like the internet to present the slam-dunk case of Couric's abuse, and don't let that disappear. That way it can be linked-to in discussions with idiot liberals who claim there's no bias. That's just as effective as pointing to a successful civil suit, and leaves the threshold for abuse of such cases in court as high as possible. Which is important when people like Bloomberg are out there willing to use any tool available to pummel us.
