Those are some really nice looking grips!

Thanks! Those are engraved on a set of Hogue ebony grips and they fit awesome. I've been making these every once in a while for people. The skull looks awesome on some ivory grips too

Thanks, man. My first SA in many years.

And my first 1911 in 45 ACP. I've been wanting one ever since shooting StantonCree's a few years back, and you certainly haven't helped dissuade me. ;)

I think black & white snaps get close to doing justice to the finish - an all stainless pistol with black ion bonded rounded surfaces and polished flat surfaces.

Congrats, buddy! That's one helluva nice 1911 for your first .45 ACP!

It's great to see Colt bring back the Combat Elite. They should never have discontinued it in the first place. I'm looking forward to shooting it! :D

A few more of the Colt Combat Elite, some with a Colt Competition in 9mm. :)

Man I want one of those competition models in 9mm something terrible. How do you like it? For my tastes it is set up perfectly from the factory. Love that it already has a fiber optic front.

I've been really happy with it. Initially, maybe the first couple hundred rounds, it had a few stovepipes. I'm guessing this was a break-in period. I've stuck with 115gr and 124gr RN ammo and not had any issues more than a 1000 rounds later. Just smooth operation using the factory mags, Wilson Combat mags, or TRP mags. Mine is a Series 80. Not sure if they're available anymore or Colt just sells the Series 70 for the 9mm Competition models.

It is my most accurate semiautomatic pistol. It's very easy to hit what I'm aiming at. My Sig P226 SAO Legion and a couple of my Walther PPQs come close, but the Colt Competition is money. Being a 1911 with tighter tolerances, it will require attention to cleaning every thousand rounds or so.

Maybe I'll get to this level with the Combat Elite after a few range sessions. Zzzzz_man was dialed in with it the first time I took it out (wasn't bad for me, but I shot a tighter group with his TRP - reminiscent of his CZ Shadow Orange in how easy it was to hit point of aim).

I like the fiber optic fronts because I like to shoot POA with pistols and most sights won’t let me do that. I have changed all of my Glocks to fiber fronts and I now shoot them much better. I also have a RIA tac ultra cs with fiber front and I shoot it great. A full size colt like that one already set up I believe I would really enjoy.

What a couple of nice 1911s. I really like the contrast of the Combat Elite!

Thanks. The CE certainly looks like it could be tossed in the range bag, get scuffed up, and wear it proudly. I'd be more nervous with a highly polished, blued slide than this one, sharp edges and all (while there are certainly refined in appearance 1911s that I would be proud to own). I also like that they didn't put forward cocking serrations on this particular CE release.

Thanks for taking my out of it. :D

    :)

If money were no thing, I'd love to also have a stainless 9mm Series 70 Competition just to compare to my current model.

Maybe it's an age thing but this thread reminds me that the 1911 is still one of the best looking guns around.

It's a good-looking piece in the flesh. The whole two-tone thing has been tastefully subdued. The contrast changes depending on the angle you look at it.

I like how it shoots! That's the first mag I shot out of the Combat Elite @ 7 yards with some S&B 230gr FMJ, aiming for the throat region. I think Colt is on to something with the dual recoil spring set-up. While it does require more effort to rack the slide, it makes up for it by being a very soft shooter.

Got this 1925 Colt Government 1911 from Atlantic Guns. It has been re-blued, but everything appears "correct" with the added bonus of having matching frame and slide serial numbers. Whoever did the re-blue was an artist. Someone made an attempt to make it look like the day it left the factory.

Just got the information from Colt Archives that the pistol was shipped to Carlin and Fulton Hardware Company in Baltimore on June 1, 1925. It was one of two shipped to them on that date.
