If you * want * either the price leader or the LWRC , go for it and don't look back . But if you are a blank slate , the 6721 is the benchmark to which everything else is compared .

Base model ARs are pretty inexpensive right now. Unless you have a specific purpose for it, I would buy something “cheap” to learn the platform then either upgrade parts or save/trade up for a rifle that completes your ultimate goal. Whether that is long range, action sports, range toy/plinker, hunting, or just a really “cool” rifle. If you spend $500 on a AR and take care of it, you should be able to get that same amount back in sale or trade but if you buy something expensive and decide you want something else you’ll have a harder time getting your money back out of it. Plus, having a “cheap” rifle around as a backup, truck gun, loaner rifle may come in handy in the future. ;)

Colt's all well and good because it will help you determine what you're looking for, but personally I've found the 6721 to be a bit front heavy. You can't go wrong with it though being that it's your first. (you'll end up with more than one)

Whatever you pick, you'll want a different version later. Used LE Colt everyone suggests is a good first. You can always sell it later without a loss if you get the itch for Tacticool.
