    What a great chunk of information!

    I'd agree that the military tends to beat the crap out of their weapons through overcleaning, bolt slamming, lack of lubrication, etc. These are bad habits.

    Personally, I'm less worried about something stupid that gun show morons do a few times over a weekend because they don't know better than something stupid that I do a thousand times over a decade because I got taught that it was the "right" way.

    No argument here. The military has also worn out most of the SAWs, a good cross section of M16s, and even some relatively new Berettas and M4s. If you like beaten up, barely functional guns, visit my arms room. I have sorry examples of most currently issued small arms. Our SAWs are so bad that we had to borrow from another unit to get everyone through MG qual. The 1911s survived abuse better than most.
