    1. ACTION ITEM: Loudoun County considering a shooting ban on Thursday!
    2. Monthly membership meeting in Annandale on Thursday

    1. ACTION ITEM: Loudoun County considering a shooting ban on Thursday!
    ************************************************************

Tomorrow, Thursday, June 21, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (BoS) is going to consider a proposed ordinance dealing with the discharge of firearms that will effect both hunting and shooting. We need some strong turnout to show opposition!

The proposal would ban shooting if there is another occupied structure within a half-mile of where you are shooting. That would pretty much ban shooting in the entire county!

The BoS may also consider other changes, as well.

If you live in Loudoun County, I strongly suggest you attend this meeting. The meeting starts at 5 pm and is at:

    Loudoun County Government Center
    Board Room, First Floor
    1 Harrison Street, S.E.
    Leesburg, VA 20177

Carry is allowed at the meeting.

continuance of the other recent thread here. i emailed the board of supervisors again (i'm out of town for this week's meeting). i said if you're all really concerned about safety, ban alcohol and cell phones. like that would happen, they're really not THAT concerned... it's more like, this may ever so slightly improve safety and none of the anti-gunners will be affected, so let's do it.

below is my most recent email to the board, replying to the chair's email back to me. she is blindly going forward with this so any fellow loudounites need to either be at the meeting and/or email the board with your stance and reasoning on this issue. i listed their emails in the other thread on this.

isn't civil liability enough here? if they damaged property, the owners can sue, right? same thing if, God forbid, they injured or killed someone, right? it seems you're saying that as long as no other homes are within (currently and hopefully always) 100yds of me, I can fire rounds willy nilly in the air with no repercussions? and that with your proposed new law, as long as i hit something outside of the 1/2 mile radius, i am exempt from any criminal or civil prosecution? surely that isn't the case now??

again, surely we have had at least ONE drunk driving death or damage in our county, right, yet to my knowledge you have done nothing along the lines of banning alcohol in the county, is that right? if so, why not?

why do you think it is ok to take away everyone's right to hunt and target shoot in my county because of one incident, yet you are doing nothing to stop drunk or distracted driving?

i think it is irresponsible and reprehensible to take away everyone's rights for the irresponsible actions of one or a few, but, if you are going to do that you should at least carve out hunting and self defense situations. i enjoy eating venison, am tired of hitting them with my cars, and am tired of buzzards eating road kill deer that have wandered into my yard to die. with less to no hunting under your proposed 8x radius enlargements, there will be more car vs deer accidents, damage and deaths.

and just as a reminder, the 100 yard radius has been on the books since forever (?) and yet thousands and thousands and thousands of people have moved into Loudoun and accepted this, essentially voting with their moves here, so i see no need to change this given that everyone has voted for and accepted it. one of the reasons i selected Loudoun some 20 years ago, and my property/home, is my ability to safely and responsibly hunt and target shoot and I really don't want that taken away because of one or a few idiots.

again, thank you for your consideration.

    Dear David,
I appreciate your continued thoughtfulness on this issue. You raised a good question about whether the shooters in this case should have faced charges. When asked by Board members why no charges were considered in this case, County law enforcement pointed to the inadequacy of the County ordinance. The key part of the ordinance that, in the opinion of County law enforcement, protected the shooters from being charged is in (d), where, as long as the discharges were initiated farther than 100 yards from the homes, no homeowner permission was required to shoot. As the Willowsford area shootings were initiated from about 300 yards away, County law enforcement has stated that they cannot prosecute.
