I am new to the boards and also am a new HQL holder! Take it easy on me! I can't seem to find this in search and I hope I am posting in the right section. How does it work buying a handgun that normally holds a magazine with more then 10 rounds? Do they simply just take the magazines out of the case when you purchase the handgun? I see that there are plenty of guns on the roster that hold larger magazines. Just confused what would happen when trying to buy one of them. Also if you purchase online and have the gun sent to the FFL dealer. I would assume they are going to take the larger magazines out of the case? They wouldn't just send it back would they!?

    Thank you for the answers!

Some dealers block the mags to 10 rd capacity. Some will send them out of state to a friend of yours if you have some one. You are allowed to bring them back. And then theire are the prick dealers who just take the mag. Make sure to ask before you buy or transfer.
Welcome to the world of MD's insane gun laws.

Any handgun you buy from an instate FFL will most likely have a 10 round magazine with it.

If you order one in from out of state the seller could send it without a mag., pull the mag out and send it to an out of Maryland address for you, or send it to your FFL with the proper mag. Then your FFL could send the mag out of state for you or just take it out and you get the gun without a mag.

It all depends on how much hassle the seller and FFL want to go through for you. You will never receive that mag from your FFL within Maryland though.

Thanks for the responses guys. So there is no set rules for this, more so how the FFL dealer wants to handle it if the gun is bought out of state. Might be worth the couple extra bucks to just buy from them knowing that you will def get the magazines that are suppose to come with the guns! Then just go out of state to get the larger ones if I want to.

Ding, Ding, Ding = BINGO = Right Answer = Keep It Simple & make it a happy purchase...

It is the intent of the laws to make it confusing & frustrating, thereby discouraging people from buying guns...

Deal with one of the IP's here but make sure you discuss the Magazine issue before handing over any money...

 Happen to have a list or thread where all the IP's are listed? Always looking for the easy way :)

No, they won't send the gun back. They just can't let you have the mags though. Some'll block 'em, but expect to hafta either buy new mags from them, or go to an out-or-state gun show to buy politically incorrect ones.

I think I am probably buying a gun with a single stack mag anyways but in the future I would like to find a place where I can at least get them to block the mags instead of taking them all together!

ask your FFL dealer what their policy is. if you have a place out of state (relative, friend, etc) the FFL is allowed by law to ship the magazines out of state. Some of the IPs here will do that at varying degress of cost. others will block the magazines. in most cases if you make a trip out of state and (legally of course) unblock the magazines and bring them back into the state.

where are you located? there are some out of state FFLs that will give you the magazines that come in the box for the firearm you purchase, and only send the firearm to the FFL of your choice in state. some arrangements this may be overly costly, but depending on the handgun, and the transfer costs of the FFL, this cost would be less than purchasing magazines (2 or 3) for the firearm.

Not a bad idea. I wonder if there are any places close by in Dover. Could avoid taxes on the purchase as well! Or should I stick to VA if doing something like that?

You have to do the mental math on the $ of shipping and transfer fee ( and travel expenses) vs the value of a magazine or two.

Just like you computed the travel expenses between Annapolis area and Duffy's. vs the value of complementary magazine blocking in post #12 .

Many guns are available with factory 10 round magazines, check the manufacturers web site. They will also accept standard capacity magazines, in case you ever move out of Marylandstan and decide to live in America. Standard capacity magazines are widely available as an aftermarket item anywhere other than Maryland. The advantage is you will have a gun that can be configured in various ways depending on where you are at the moment but the "official" paperwork will always show it as being sold with "compliant" magazines.

Little far from me in Annapolis! Not much to choose from over these parts.

What part of the Maryland socialist Republic do you live? Someone may know of an close by IP that will work with you.

I travel out of state at least once a year on vacation so I would love to just get the standard mags blocked to 10. Then I can find a place out of state to unblock them and I'm good to go.

By the way. Love the comment of moving out of Maryland and into America!

Haha I am right by the bay bridge on the Sandy Point side.

"No Honest Man Needs More Than Ten Rounds" :)

I couldn't agree more. Unless put in a spot where there are 3-4 assailants! Then you could be asking for trouble!

In all seriousness there is a video on YouTube if a guy who carried a single stack with him everywhere and loved it. Til he witnessed a robbery that involved 5 robbers. His view on carrying the single stack changed. Not saying I feel the same way but it's crazy to think with that and all the terrorist out there that a single stack may not be enough in certain situations anymore!

2 Amendment Sales in Jessup might restrict the mags for you, they did this for me with my new Glock 19. Best part is, easily reversable.
