I'd LOVE to put a Gadsden plate on my vehicle.

While that's nice...I'd much rather have an obnoxious yellow plate that would piss off every non freedom loving, lib in this state.

Good luck getting THAT approved in MD.
    :(

Now, as far as "organizational plates", that might be possible. You only need 25 people to start the program for the ones without a graphic on it. I'm not sure about the minimum for the ones with a logo or graphic. But I think the latter are $25 or $50 extra a year.

Edit: I'm assuming you mean regularly issued plates, like "Bay plates" "Farm plates" etc..

If not gadsen, then why not an Associated Gun Clubs (AGC) plate. There has to be more than 25 of us on here that belong to one of the clubs in the group.

i heard a story on WTOP about NRA plates the other day. They say that requests are UP for the NRA plates in VA, by like 40%. They said requests are not up in MD. They failed to mention that no one knows how to get the NRA plate....

I started the MLA (Maryland Locksmith Association) tag program back in the early 90s. We chose the ones without the logo because it was a one-time cost of $11 (at the time, I think it's now $14) as opposed to the organizational plate WITH a logo, because that is a yearly additional fee - like vanity plates.

The association made nothing off the program. The entire fee when to the MVA.

I suppose we could have told people it would be $20 and kept the difference as part of our "fundraising", but we didn't.

Here's the relevant information for doing new organizational plates:

    Info: http://www.mva.maryland.gov/Vehicle-Services/SpecialtyPlates/Inform_org.asp

    Application: http://www.mva.maryland.gov/Vehicle-Services/SpecialtyPlates/VR-039.pdf

    TR 13-619: http://law.justia.com/codes/maryland/2005/gtr/13-619.html

    COMAR 11.15.19.03: http://www.dsd.state.md.us/COMAR/getfile.aspx?file=11.15.19.03.htm

We would need a non-profit with at least 25 members and MVA has to approve the logo. I'm happy to be one of the 25, but wouldn't know the first thing about starting a non-profit.

I looked through a few of the sample plates to see if anything provocative was approved, but didn't find much. The NRA and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association both display firearms on their logos though.

P.S. According to TR 13-619, the extra money paid does not go back to the organization, it is kept by MVA to recoup their costs.

Its protected by 1a. They can't target it yet..

I assume MSI could do a plate as well, but not sure we want to divide us up.

I assume that NRA gets some funding from this but not sure how.

The idea is best if it works to channel funds ...

When have stupid things like rights and the law ever stopped Annapolis ;)

Well without getting funding its just a metal number sticker that helps fund our opposition.

Also the story I linked refers to some vocal and misinformed push back in texas about tea party hate and all that crap.

I am thinking that we should attempt to depoliticize the gadsen.

That is, make it more generic than just right /left.
This will have the consequence of trowing off our opposition .. they will no longer know who is in their camp.

Gadsen would still mean limited government but that's all. Democrats and Republicans can agree on at lest this ;glovenment needs to be more accountable.

Not sure I would volunteer more money to government to send that message.. but. Some might. I wonder what the Md legislature would make of that.
