unless you are shooting those guns like crazy, you don't need to worry so much about cleaning them. (anticipating some flak for that remark, but it's the truth :))

An old tooth brush, a bore snake or bore brush, some CLP and a couple old rags; just don't let it rust. Otherwise you can make it a much bigger deal than it needs to be, or make cleaning guns a hobby (they would last a lot longer if you did clean them properly).

Hoppes #9 to clean, mobile one to lube, and common sense everywhere between.

This. And for the record the mobil 1 syn grease is used mainly for the buffer and spring you get no sprung noise and it feels smooth. Not to mention 1 quart of mobil will last a very long time. Happy shooting man try a few things see what works best for your bud.

whats brands or types of ammo are usually corrosive?

Don't worry about it, unless you shoot a Mosin.

Probably most foreign surplus military ammo uses corrosive primers. These deposit salts which will quickly start corroding the gun unless they're flushed away quickly with a good cleaning.

People who shoot old military rifles will eagerly buy up old foreign ammo, because it's cheap. But it's getting more scarce. There hasn't been any decent surplus .303 British in years. 8mm Mauser is drying up. The most plentiful for the moment is the Mosin ammo, unapologetically corrosive and commie to boot.

US ammo hasn't used corrosive primers since about WWII. No modern commercial ammo uses corrosive primers.
