I have a Romy G kit that's been an unfinished project for a while :sad20:. Back when I was thinking about finishing it Corsica was building them but I contacted Joe tonight and he said they are no longer doing them.
Anyone know of anyone who does quality work in the area?

Harbor Freight has a sale on 12-ton presses $129:

    And a spot welder($159):

    And a propane torch ($14.99):

And a jig(which is currently out of stock):

But once you've got all that, you can roll your own for life. :D

Talk to Mike at Midcounty, he does fantastic work. DOnt try to do it at home.

I have never seen a home built AK I would want to own.

Meh, maybe you wouldn't want to own it. And I'll be the first to admit, my homebuilt AK has some big flaws. And because of them, I wouldn't sell it to anyone, but there is a satisfaction from knowing that I built my gun all on my own.

The key to building an AK is to take your time and don't cut corners.

I agree, but to build just one makes no sense cost wise when consdering the jigs, machinery, and tools to do the job right. You will have to build over 10 AK's to see any cost benefit, and they are still homebuilt AK's in the end.

Im sure there are people out there who have the skill and equipment, but I have yet to see anyones home build AK in person that exceeeds a Century AK in quality (Finish, Riveting, Sight Straightness, Headspace, Heat Treatment, Trigger Slap, Receiver/Barrel Straightness).

I for one understand the satisfaction of building something and enjoying the process, but if I cant do something right, and perfect, it isnt worth doing. Thats what a professional in any trade is for.

    This.

It seems deceptively easy--and people have definitely built reliable, safe AKs with homemade jigs and a minimum of experience.

But there are lots of ways to screw up a build, especially with a virgin barrel. If you want to end up with a nice-looking AK with a minimum of headache, there's no substitute for specialized jigs and equipment--and the skills to fit all the parts together properly. Just the finishing alone is an art unto itself.

There's definitely a lot of value in rolling your own, the least of which is being able to claim "I made this". But you shouldn't expect to save money doing it, nor to have a better rifle than you could buy complete...
