An FN AR goes for under $1000 on Bud's site. As for why folks are sticking M4 collapsible stocks on every thing is they're adjustable, so your 5' tall girlfriend can shoot it then you can extend the stock so it fits you.

That's fine, for an option. But it shouldn't be the only option.
Besides, I can't really imagine any 5' nothing gal shooting a 12 lb rifle.

Anyone remember the semi auto M249 they marketed a while back? That wasn't cheap either...
