My friend showed me this today. Not original grips but it is in pristine condition. Just beautiful.

Sent from my phone from somewhere in the world.

Looks like a New Service, an older model with the flat cylinder latch. But it's hard to tell, and I'm no expert.

I was thinking police special, with pencil barrel. But they are very close. If its a new service the grips are not original or its a later commercial gun.

I would have to see serial numbers and markings to be sure. If its an 1892 to 1901 its definately been reblued. They were never that polished originally and rusted fast.

I have no idea, as I'm not a revolver guy (yet), but that piece is beautiful. I'm going to have to get started into revolvers sometime soon, they are a calling me. I'm starting to think that maybe I will start with some used classic like this.

Just make sure its labeled .38 special before you stick special in it. .38 colt wont even take .38 special and .38 S&W barely fits but will result in a booooooooooooooooooooom

    Wow, that is a beauty!

I've always liked classic service revolvers.

Yeah it is beautiful. He has owned it for 25 some years he said. Bought it from a friend who rarely shot it. He has never shot it.
It was a little dark, I didn't have my reading glasses and after a few jamesons, it was tough to read the barrel if it even said what the model was :) I stopped looking when I saw Colt's..blah blah blah. lol

.38 Colt, .38 S&W Special, and .38 S&W are three distinct and different cartridges. They are not necessarily interchangeable.

    Good luck
