    In nyc it was white trash Irish.

    No. Its not about control of everyone...just 'them'. Thats how it works.. no one agrees to be controled...they just agree that 'we' need to control 'them'.


    Then the class of 'we' gets smaller and more restricted.. and the class of 'them' grows without limit.

    This continues until all the 'them' get a clue.. what happens next has destroyed greater empires.

    Well to extent of the publicly esposed motives in NYC, it was more generally "Immigrents" , Irish and Italian , and southern/eastern europeans to a lesser extent. Remember this was on the heels of the great wave of immigration that was then starting to slow, but still had large numbers of recent immigrents still as an underclass, and still largely retain their identities with the old country.

    Not to be overlooked many of the politicians were totally corrupt, and affiliated with various criminal gangs ( hint- Sullivan himself). They were seeking to gain an advantage of "their" criminals vs "other" criminals , and to give the criminal element generally a favorable position ve the general population.

    No believe me, I was looking for mainly just before '72, but the historical context is actually pretty interesting.
