My stepdaughter used to work for a vet who handled exotics and she would sometimes bring home animals that had been brought in. I know that I have some pictures of an owl that she brought home. They also had a hawk that unfortunately had to be put down after losing a leg in a trap. I will try to post them later today.

MomOSix has a friend who works pretty closely with birds, etc. He is the state DNR, but not an NRP officer.

Someone found a snow owl down by Rocky Gap. Dead, of course. Dnr guy went to gather it up amd they sent it off to be studied.

Whenever a raptor is found dead or accidentally killed, the carcass is kept by NRP until the Federal Authorities authorize them to ship it. The process is a long one as tribes, museums, schools etc all put in request for the birds. We had a couple in the freezer at Broadneck it seemed almost forever before shipping them out. Whenever I find a injured protected bird, I take it to a woman in Howard County who is authorized to receive protected species.

As with any Federal issue, there are forms to be filled out, chain of custody, notifications etc. etc.

Don't kill any protected species or the wrath of Big Brother will come down on you. You will probably get more time than the dunufins in Bloodymore get for murdering someone. :mad54:

There is a big time federal fine for just having any feathers of a raptor, without a permit, unless you are a native American.

Then it's no sweat, all you gotta say is your grandma used to say you were..:lol2:

Had one of them hanging out in a tree across from me while in my deer stand back in October. It hung out for about 40 minutes.
