I've been shopping online for a carry gun do to lack of anything really available at LGS in my area. When looking at the roster does the exact model numbers have to be listed?

For example the springfield Hellcat HC9319BLC is not listed. I believe it's just a verisson shipped with 2 10 round mags. The original verison Hellcat HC9319B with a 11 and a 13 round mags is listed is.

Another I looked at was a diamondback db9-g4. The db9 was listed but not the dn9-g4 (gen 4).

Does anyone know if these are on the roster or do the slight changes in model numbers not exclude them?

I sorta have the same question. Roster lists "models", but then some models have series. For example, I am interested in a S&W 686. The model 686 is clearly "approved", but the specific one I want is a "Series" of "Plus". SKU S&W 150854 or also SKU 11760. MD laws make my head spin.
Then the roster also lists SKU's for various handguns. Even some handguns on the current Agenda for March review board meeting appear to already be on the handgun roster as a "general type". It's so very confusing I agree. I tend to just ask my FFL before purchasing online.

If a model number is listed, then your gun must conform to that number. If it has a series and says all series, then all models of that gun are approved. Here is an example. 1911 GOVERNMENT MODEL MK IV SERIES 70 N/A 45 ACP . This indicates that all Colt Series 70 in .45 ACP caliber are approved.

In this illustration all models are approved. 1911 GOVERNMENT MODEL MK IV SERIES 80 ALL MODELS APPROVED. PLEASE ENTER MODEL NUMBER. 22 LR, 38 Super, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 9 mm

    In this illustration only the models listed in .40 cal are approved. M&P 40 M2.0 11519 (SKU #), 11522 (SKU #), 11525 (SKU #), 11595 (SKU #), 11684 (SKU #) COMPACT, 11687 (SKU #) COMPACT, 11691 (SKU #), 11762 (SKU #), 11764 (SKU#), 11768 (SKU #), 11990 (SKU#), 12483 (SKU#), 12484 (SKU#), N/A 40 S&W

Thanks John. I guess I'll just come out and ask. Based on current Handgun roster, in your opinion are these currently legal for sale in MD? (sorry for caps, just cut and pasted)

    SMITH & WESSON 11760 PERFORMANCE CENTER 686 PLUS 357 MAG 7RD 5" VENT RIB or S&W 686 PLUS 357MAG 5" SS "357" MAGNUM 7RD SMITH WESSON REVOLVER 150854

I won't be able to answer that until Monday or Tuesday. MSP has shut down the entire firearms system for an upgrade for the new laws taking effect on March 12th.

I found a Jan 2020 handgun roster archived and the 686 is not broken down by model numbers but by names. Here is what is listed.

686, 686 Carry Comp, Competitor (357 Mag), Deluxe (357 Mag), Distinguished Combat Magnum (357 Mag), Hunter (357 Mag), Mag Comp (357 Mag), 686-7 Performance Center (38 Spl)

Since a 686-7 Performance Center is listed, I believe it is approved for sale in MD.

Should be fine. I looked up the first number you posted and the picture that came up is exactly the same as the one I have. Is this what you’re looking at buying?

Thanks all. The 686-7 is listed for 38 spl only, and I wanted the 357 Mag version. So that gave me pause. The performance center model is much more expensive though. Basically wanting a 5" barrel S&W 357 mag. So I have been looking for one I like, can afford, and is approved.

Another point on the handgun roster. I looked at the agenda for the upcoming March meeting and they are to review models already on the roster (different than ones I have listed above). I know because I just bought several in last few weeks and MSP approved. Albeit, it's a more specific model number on the agenda, but it is literally the same handgun.

Mine has a 5” barrel and is a .357 mag.
It’s a TALO edition, not a performance center model.
    I don’t think the 686+ was even made in a .38 special model, every 686 I’ve ever seen/heard of was a .357

Thanks rbird7282 (and you too John). Everything I see about your reference it must be SKU:150854. Assuming yours is 7-shot. Sorry, just a newbie in the revolver world. Plenty of other handguns and rifles, but dipping my toes into revolvers.

The roster is such BS it sucks missing the dead line and having to wait like 6mo. I hope this dumb state someday gets rid of it.

Have your Delegate or Senator submit a bill to do, and then do the work in Annapolis to make it happen. Help them get signatures for co-sponsors, help them with the wording of the bill, help them with the argument of getting rid of the board.

So it sounds like in my original examples:

The hellcat would not be on the roster because several exact models are listed but not the one in question.

The Diamondback would because the roster doesn't list model # (says N/A) for model. Just list DB9 IIRC.

    Clear as Mud right

I ran into a similar(ish) problem with the Glock 43x MOS. Below, is the response I received from MSP, hope it helps.

    Good Afternoon,

I received your petition for the Glock 43X MOS. I am pleased to inform you that the firearm is already on the handgun roster and legal for sale. It appears the firearm is only engraved as 43X and N/A indicates all model numbers/variations are approved in 9 mm for Model 43X.

    Yes it’s a 7 shot 686+
I’ve had it for 8-9 years so I think it’s legal for sale lol

    According to wiki.
    Engineering and production changes
686 (no dash), 1981 Introduction model
686-1, 1986 radius stud package, floating hand
686-2, 1987 changed hammer nose, bushing and associated parts
686-3, 1988 new yoke retention system
686-4, 1993 change rear sight leaf, drill and tap frame, change extractor, Hogue grips
686-5, 1997 change frame design to eliminate cylinder stop stud, eliminate serrated tangs, MIM hammer and trigger, change internal lock.
    686-6, 2001 internal lock
686-7, 2003 Performance Center .38 Super, 6-Shot unfluted cylinder, 4" barrel, Stainless Steel, 250 Made

So the roster listing of 686-6 has 2 specific SKU's even though the 686-6 is just their production series with an internal lock. So everything that's 686 with an internal lock is technically a 686-6 production. I spoke with Rachel at roster board today and she deferred the SKU S&W 150854 to my FFL. It's labeled a 686+ and per here:
https://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/default.aspx?item=150854 is a Model 686 PLUS - Distinguished Combat Magnum and this is on the roster "Distinguished Combat Magnum (357 Mag)". But the box label is 686-6 for which SKU 150854 is not on the roster. Such a conundrum.

This is one of the reasons why I think the roster was created. Confuse you until you either give up or lose interest.

If you are still unsure, find yourself a good FFL and you can verify with them whether they can transfer or order the model that you are looking for.

Still not sure what the issue is. Does the gun you want have 6 or 7 round capacity?
The gun you linked is definitely on the roster because I have that exact gun.
Looks like you said the box label says 686 6 round but with the same SKU as the gun in the link. Sounds like the box is mis-labeled.
I also wouldn’t use Wiki for facts on this
