Just finished this up a few nights ago… GSG 1911-22.. she got a new duracoat paint job top and bottom, all new springs, firing pin, disconnected the magazine safety, removed all the series 80 parts and put the shim in, polished the feed ramp, slide rails & hammer and added new dawson sights. BTW that is not over spray on the slide

Just picked up this squirrel sniper rifle:D

What do you think of it?

I was thinking about one for a suppressor host, but then I held one, and eeeeesh that stock is horrible. Like you can bend the forend with your thumb horrible. That means it would need the Boyd's tacticool stock right off the bat, which, with the lower metal replacement kit, is like another $170.

That made me start looking at the Ruger American Rimfire. Some people claim it isn't quite as accurate as the Savage, some say it is. Either way, it would use the same mags as my 10/22 and the modular stock uses the same parts so I could swap out the stock modules to short ones so my son could eventually shoot it.

I'm really leaning toward the Ruger at this point, but of course I'd want the "special" one:

These seem to run about $300-ish, and it seems that the Savage runs about $200 - $250, plus the cost of the new stock if I did that. Decisions, decisions.

I have a Ruger American rimfire compact as well. The stock is sturdier and MUCH heavier on the ruger. If you want a light gun to run around and hunt some critters then the Savage stock is just fine. If you want to shoot it off a bench then I'd get the Boyd's stock (which I'm going to get). The bolt on the Savage is far more substantial it also has the fluted bull barrel. All that should result in better accuracy but I haven't shot them side by side yet.

I got the Savage mostly for the threaded barrel as my ruger doesn't have one. I paid $50 less for the Savage and I bought it with the intention of putting a thumb hole stock on it so the original "throwaway" stock doesn't bother me.

It's like I always say, if you can't choose between the 2, buy both. :D
In this case they are certainly cheap enough;)

Well, there's that. But there's also the MKIV 22/45 Lite I'm theoretically going to pick up, and some other stuff... :P

It'll be a bench rifle since I have no place to varmint hunt. The specific Ruger I'm looking at has a thicker barrel than the standard one, and a more substantial bolt handle (and a threaded barrel). I honestly don't think I can lose either way here, though.

I like that look! I had to Google this one (GSG-5). Am I reading correctly - this is a regulated firearm because it "looks like it has a suppressor"?

No. There are no more "regulated" rifles in Maryland. It's either banned or it's cash and carry. A rifle is only banned if:

    1) it is on "the list" (in the statute) by name, or

    2) it is a "copy" of a rifle on the list (defined as being both cosmetically similar and having completely interchangeable parts), or

    3) it is a "copycat assault weapon" which is defined as "a centerfire, semi automatic rifle which accepts a detachable magazine" and either
    a) is less than 29" in overall length
    b) has more than one of
    *) a flash hider,
    *) a grenade launcher,
*) a folding (not collapsing) stock

The GSG-5 is a rimfire rifle, so it is none of those things and is cash and carry.

Nice (other than the lady bug comforter background you continue to use ). Browning SA-22? Takedown model? Saw these on sale not long ago and was tempted.

So, do you like the savage more than the ruger?

Yes. The Savage is lighter and more easily wielded (if that makes sense) even though it has a heavier barrel and much heavier bolt than the ruger. The stock is cheap and flimsy but I wasn't planning on keeping it anyway so no harm no foul.

Everyone loves ruger so much, so I was thinking about going in that direction too.

That is a meanass looking gun, especially with that barrel on there.

My new CZ 455 Varmint Evolution. Just mounted the scope, will take it out Saturday. Got both kinds of Wolf match ammo and some of the Federal automatch my 10/22 liked, will see how it does...
