I just heard on the radio this morning and googled to see what it was about. Here is the info:

    1.

    BALTIMORE —

Baltimore police arrested two teenagers Saturday in connection with a robbery in Federal Hill.

City police said officers were called around 8:30 p.m. Saturday to the 900 block of South Hanover Street, where a woman said she was sitting in her car when a group of juveniles robbed her of her cellphone and money.

"I am completely frustrated by the situation the juveniles that have been committing these crimes this is not kids being kids," Baltimore City Councilman Eric Costello said.

A short time later, police said officers arrested a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl. Both were taken to the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center.

A Baltimore City councilman said the arrests highlight a troubling trend.

    BALTIMORE —

A woman said she was beaten with wooden boards and sticks while walking down the street in a Federal Hill neighborhood. Baltimore police said eight people were assaulted and/or robbed in several incidents Halloween night in South Baltimore.

The woman called her teenage attackers cowards for what they did, badly injuring her face and her knees.

"I feel lucky to be alive. It could have been a lot worse," the victim said.

The woman, who did not want to give her name, said she was attacked Halloween night in Federal Hill. She was walking to Barfly's restaurant to meet friends when about 10 teenagers came out of an alley.

"I had a red down-like vest on, so they grabbed the back of my vest and then held me, and then out in front of them came six young women with wood pieces that were like maybe an inch thick and about three feet long," she said.

    She was surrounded.

"They started hitting me with the wood, in the knees, a lot in my face," she said.

She suffered a broken eye socket, broken nose and lacerations on both of her knees.

Her boyfriend, Jeff Brown, said something needs to be done about what he describes as a growing trend.

"I wish more people would take responsibility for knowing where their children are and what they're doing because it's pretty unfortunate to see kids at this age committing these types of crimes," Brown said.

They are crimes that sent the victim to the hospital.

"A couple of blows too hard I realized I couldn't stand up anymore, so I went to the ground on my knees," she said. "By the time I was on the ground, I was screaming and begging for them to stop."

A stranger did come to her rescue and scared the teens away.

"He kept apologizing that he was late, but he came right on time and I'm completely thankful for that," she said.

She said she's thankful to be alive.

The victim said the teens took her cellphone. She also said she is glad she fought back, but doesn't understand why they would want to harm her.

Anyone with information should call police.

    3.

A group of violent teenagers swarmed and assaulted a New Jersey family of 10 visiting Baltimore’s Inner Harbor during their vacation on Oct. 21.

The family, who wished to remain anonymous, discussed the attack with WJZ-TV.

What did the family say about the attack?

One of the female victims — Stacey — told the station that her husband was knocked unconscious during the attack.

“They swarmed us,” she said. “They hit my husband in the head. They knocked him out … and then it was just complete bedlam.”

“They punched my nephew in the face and knocked him to the floor,” Stacey added. “My sister went to protect her son, and they were kicking her. I was kneeling with my husband screaming, ‘Somebody help us, why is nobody helping us?’”

Another victim in the attack — a man named Sal — said that if police had been on foot patrol, the incident may not have happened.

I HATE that f*#&ing city. I still have a house there and I’m ready to let it go. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about Baltimore. May it burn down as fast as possible.

It seems to me that the kids are moving up to the big league of crime. Cant help but wonder if its all those violent video games that might be giving them the ideas and all that rap cra* about violence and drugs. I bet none of these kids got a spanking when they were young or never had a father to discipline them when they misbehaved as well. Now as an end result its called Bloodymore where a persons life does not count at all. It all goes back to the violent games on xbox and other media as well. The Mayor, police and states att have a big part in this as well when they plea away a gun charge or make a deal where they are charged with manslaughter instead of murder. Look at what they get for it, a warm place to sleep, 3 meals ah day, more knowledge on how to be a thug when they get out, or not even spend time in jail at all...

Yeah, gangs and violence never occurred before video games.

It's ironic that people from New Jersey, a place when an even more abysmal record of repressing the right to defend one's self, would ask why no one is helping them.

I lived in Baltimore for about 10 years, I moved out 2 years ago. I don't really like going back. After the riots I felt like the police and city government have no idea how to control the populous. Just about everyone I know that still lives there has been assaulted or robbed to some degree. A guy I know was riding his bike in the inner harbor and some teens pushed him off his bike into the harbor. There is no respect or value given to people.

My BIL's house was broken into they stole his car keys and computer. They took his car and drove it around until it ran out of gas and then smashed every panel and window, insult to injury. They left his $2K golf clubs in the trunk though, they probably didn't know what they were for.

Charm city has lost it's charm...

I've been a city resident now for about 7 years. I knew what to expect when I moved here and to date my wife and I have not been victims of crime. It might be dumb luck, or it might be that we are aware of our surroundings, circumstance, and don't put ourselves into questionable situations. I've worked in some of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in the city, including over two thirds of the city's school facilities and and almost all of the MTA facilities.

Now, I do not claim or believe myself to be immune from the dangers of Baltimore, but I do think my attitude and situational awareness have helped to keep me safe. I really enjoy living in Baltimore for a lot of reasons that might not mean much to the folks here, but for those interested in what I might be doing different here's a few tips.

We have dogs. Big, scary, over-protective dogs. We keep our doors and fence locked. We have flood lights. We don't leave anything in our cars. We don't decide to stumble home alone from the bar at 2 AM drunk. We are not tourists in the city we live in. I'm not sure if that makes much sense in writing, but there are a lot of people living in the city who just don't care enough to absorb the realities of living here. I am fairly certain most of you could spot an easy mark (a victim) if you tried. The animals of Baltimore that prey on the civilized are even better at it.

Baltimore is and will continue to be one of the more dangerous city's in America for the foreseeable future. I also completely understand those who desire a different place of residence. Some of us that live in the city understand the risks and take the necessary precautions to avoid becoming a victim, which includes understanding that you cannot rely on law enforcement to keep you safe at all times. As for me, I'm not ready to trade what I have in Baltimore for the grotesque monolith of strip malls and chain restaurants of Peoria. (I also don't have children, so there's that) This is only one man's opinion, YMMV.
