I need to get fingerprinted for a recent Form 4 transfer and was curious about how long fingerprints are valid for. They don't seem to specify.

    ATF Form 4 (5320.4)
Photographs and Fingerprints. An individual transferee, except if licensed as a manufacturer, importer, or dealer under the GCA, must (1) attach to item 15 of the ATF Form 4, a 2 inch x 2 inch photograph of the frontal view of the transferee taken within 1 year prior to the date of the application and (2) submit two properly completed FBI Forms FD-258 (Fingerprint Card with blue lines) with the application. The fingerprints must be clear for accurate classification and taken by someone properly equipped to take them.

Rather than doing traditional rolled-ink prints I was considering using the LiveScan and have 5 (their limit) printed out onto the cards to save for later.

120 days seems to be the number that pops uo with other applications, outside of NFA, that require a FD-258. Although its funny that I will submit and it probably wont get touched for 9 months.

You still can. Just don't mess them up.

    :P

    Mine are good for life!
i do find it interesting that local LEO will not fingerprint for firearms related stuff anymore....

It depends on the department. Some departments don't do public fingerprinting at all any more - they just send you to a commercial livescan vendor.
