Not kidding, from the 175th's FB page:

Maryland ANG is looking for A-10C pilot recruits.
Some prior flight time is recommended.

Although this is the ANG, the USAF is down hundreds of pilots right now so I'm not too sure they're going to get these filled right away.

Kids are more interested in flying drones than they are in real aircraft today. Part of the problem is that, with all the security at airports, it is pretty much impossible for a parent to take a child to see an airplane today. AOPA has programs at some airports to get kids a ride in a plane but it is few and far between. At a large airport, you can't even get down the concourse without a ticket.

Prior to 911, I used to watch for kids looking out concourse windows at the parked aircraft. If the flight had the ground time, I would ask the parent if he would want his child to see the cockpit. They loved it!

Ossama Bin A^#hole did more damage than people give him credit for. :sad20:

I remember being 9 or 10 when a pilot asked just that. You weren't the only one.

why does the pic of the A-10 appear above clouds with the gear down?
    That just looks strange.

A guy I went to high school with went through the medical evaluation process for becoming a W01 flying helos for the Army. They found something in his eyes that would have affected his night vision 15 years out and told him couldn't fly helicopters but, they encouraged him to enlist to become a helo mechanic. He went off to FAA ATC school instead. This was around the time that Uncle Ronnie bounced the striking FAA ATCs.

I blew my chance back in 84. I passed the WOFAT (Warrant Officer Flight Aptitude Test) with flying colors. Can't tell an 18 yo what to do. I went Infantry :(

The gear is UP. The A10's front landing gear folds up into those pod-looking things in the wings, but the wheels do not get fully covered by doors of any type.
