Still processing a lot of files.

But they were pretty good pictures as far as test photographs typically go.

From the 1940 USMC Test with 30 Caliber Rifles

They weren't bad shots, thought I'd throw them online.

The whole report was about 490-ish pages. Mostly, technical data, serial numbers and photographs of failed components.

    Enjoy

Pretty neat! What’s the last rifle pictured? It looks like some kind of 1903/M1 Hybrid

    That is an odd piece.

03 front end. Looks like the rear sight ears and holes for Garand windage and elevation, but that receiver bridge ain't normal. Has a bit of 1903 Mauser to it. Butt stock is odd too. What's up with that high rise/cut out/cheek weld area?

Can't make out a charging handle or bolt handle.

I haven't read it thoroughly, they kept talking about a Winchester rifle, it was probably the prototype they were proposing to the USMC. All this stuff is going online i only have time to review it a little before moving forward on the next set of files.

That was one nice thing about the Johnson M1941 (2nd pic), you could load and/or top off the 10 rd magazine with a stripper clip.
    Cool pics!

I stumbled onto this video earlier today:

It's about the Winchester G30R, which is a little further along in the evolution? It was a detachable mag. There are a series of videos from Forgotton Weapons about these rifles (sort of .30-06 M1 carbines). I haven't had time to watch all of them, or the one from further up thread from Full30 about the M2.

The pic in question looks to me like the M2 (because of the longer front handguard) with the bigger magazine of the G30R...so I would assume they were all detachable? I bet the answer is in the videos somewhere...I just don't have time to look for it now

    Very interesting rifle...that I didn't know existed until today:party29:

I just noticed allll that brass laying in front of the Garand (which appears to have a cracked handguard? :o)
