Wow never knew there were so many options avalible.
I ordered a recoil pad that straps on the shoulder from Midway.
Figure this would be good in warmer weather when shooting in a t shirt.
Chad you brought up a good point. I was considering a longer butt pad with more padding, but the fact lenth of pull came up.
How does one determine what the proper lenth of pull is?
This if wrong could be part of my problem to start with.
Also do lighter bullets have less recoil then heavyer bullets? By a noticable amount if so?:)

grip the unloaded gun by the pistol grip area while the gun lays sideways on a table. make an l shape with the side your gripping the gun with and put the buttpad in your elbow pocket. if the gun is too long it wont fit if its too short there will be no contact with your upper arm. the perfect length just touches the upper arm.

When a softer pad is added a smith will make the length with the new pad the proper lenght once attached. proper fit can really effect recoil and sight/optics eye relief.

another option is to thread the muzzle of your rifle and attach a compensator. You may have to double up in hearing protection as those things will make your rifle's report louder.

I am partial to the Ratworx " big Chubby" compensator or the Miculek Compensator. These will significantly reduce felt recoil and help with follow-up shots.

My 308 boltguns are fitted with compensators as to limit recoil. I hate being battered with hard kicking guns. Compensators and heavy stocks ...next best thing to attaching a suppressor. Just my 2 cents
