Recenty bought a Benjemin trail 2 nitro piston pellet rifle for rodent control and general practice. Very nice accurate rifle, but I do have 1 guestion about it. Beings is a nitro piston opposed to spring piston. Is there a rule of thumb on how long you can leave the gun cocked without damaging it? Is it safe to cock/load it without fireing it for a few days without damaging the piston?

I also recently bought a Benjamen NP Trail 22 cal, and was wondering the same thing. Once cocked its under some pretty good pressure to just leave for an extended period of time. Anyone know?

BTW - I really like the NP Trail. Very solid, long breakin period though.

Basically the same mechanism as modern car hood lift assist cylinders and SUV rear window cylinders ... that stay compressed for months or years.

Kind of w hat I was thinking about leaving g it cocked, similar to a gas strut on a car. Just was 'n t sure if there was a rule of thumb as to how long they could remained cocked, compressed without damage.
Fwiw the rifle is a very accurate solid platform. I have been using it for rodent control for the last few weeks. At 16 to 20 yards it will shoot a 1 inch group or minutes rat head

I am pretty sure that it won't likely damage the piston, but it could be hard on other parts under tension. I have not ripped it apart to see how it is designed under the hood, but I would be more concerned about the trigger mechanism than the piston itself.

I just got mine in the mail a few days ago, very pleased with it overall. It's a good shooter. I am thinking that I might put a different scope on it... It has been tempting to put my Zeiss Orion scope on it and do a little night shooting. It's only overkill. :)
