So I was shooting a 3-gun match at Peacemaker a few weeks ago. During a stage, I couldn't quad load because one of my fingers wouldn't uncurl. I had to flick the shell out to load the next set. Today, I shot a USPSA match and I botched a load when my pinky wouldn't extend and it blocked the magazine from inserting. It jammed between the baseplate and the mag funnel. I'm not sure what's going on.

My old boss had a similar issue when riding his motorcycle. Think the diagnoses was trigger finger. Ended up doing surgery after a couple rounds of cortisone shots. Been problem free the last couple years.

Are you staying hydrated? If I work in a hot environment for hours pulling hard on big wrenches, ratchets or welding pipe in difficult positions and dont stay hydrated my fingers do not want to uncurl.
If I take a break and drink a qt or two of water or Gatorade its back to normal.

It is a trigger finger. Swelling in the flexor tendon as it crosses under a pulley (A1) at far end of your hand. First line of treatment is a cortisone shot. If that doesn’t work a tiny incision and release of the pulley. I know a good hand surgeon near you. Can PM you his info if you want.

    Physical and Massage Therapy

Had trigger finger on my left middle finger a few years ago. Physical therapy, and most importantly, massage work straightened it right out.
Required a little time and homework, And I know what to do to head it off before it seizes up.Normally.
You know the saying, though, "the doctor who treats himself has a fool for a patient.

I've been busted up in so many ways, and am still (or back...) on my feet. Of all the physical therapy I've taken part in* the best has been Keith and Cassandra Zurbuch's Gambrill's PT just a few miles west of Frederick, Md near the foot of Gambrill Mountain, a geological entity, not Gander Mountain, a mere merchandiser of `'stuff.

    Heal well, brother.

I had trigger finger with my thumb a few years back. Couldn’t get in to see the hand specialist at MMI so went to my primary care doctor. He referred me to a therapist. Therapist treated me for 5 weeks even wanting to order a special thumb brace. I finally got wise and was able to see the hand doctor. One shots of cortisone and it was all better within the week.

I finally got in to see my doctor last week. She sent me to get my hands x-rayed to check for arthritis. I'm calling her today since I have not heard from her yet. I need a referral to see a specialist, because insurance. Didn't realize it was two months since this started!

Trigger finger doesn't show up on x-rays. It's something caused by the tendons and tendon sheaths. You need to see someone who deals with this on a daily basis. An orthopedic surgeon or an orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty training in the diseases of the hands.
