    1) AR-10 which is as close as you can get to your price range

    2) SCAR but you will pay dearly for one

    3) The classic FAL and M1A would be my top "fun .308" recommendations, but are also out of your range and have hurdles with optics (plus are banned in MD)

If you want an old-school battle rifle take a look at the Argentine FN-49, the precursor to the FAL. Takes a 20-round magazine.
    I love mine.

Yup you are correct, Just looked. Guess it was not Scary enough .:sad20:
And it is a wonderful, under-appreciated rifle (as is the BM-59, but again that rifle is banned).
I highly recommend it, especially if you like steel and wood.

Too bad the 91's and PTR are banned I saw a PTR for 800 the other day in AZ. If the SCAR is too expensive than dont look at the 249S which is around 8K In the price range the AR-10 is the best solution. The RFB hunter and RDB are getting better but still around 2K.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Trying to do anything on a budget usually ends up in regret. Pick what you want and save up for it.

I'm actually moving to MD this coming month. Currently living in CO. That doesn't afford me any advantages in terms of "importing" anything into MD, does it?

To bring in a rifle that was banned on Oct 2013, you had to own it before that date. You must also register it.

Why a Battle Rifle? What about Ruger or Savage Scout?

A Scout would be a better value, rugged and versatile enough to handle any chore from HD, SD, Hunting or Target Plinking. Compact enough for a truck gun.

Only requirements for Heavy Division are that the rifle must be chambered for any .30cal (or larger) round. .300BO works, but it's so close to 5.56 ballistics and range, that I don't have a real reason to buy it. Might as well step up to a proper 30 cal.

No, that's not the only requirement anymore. It has to hit a specific power factor and the BO isn't even close. 90% or more of the people shooting Heavy Metal are using an AR-10 variant.
