Just a quick question, playing with a ballistic app, and would like to know, does a red dot or holographic sight with a magnifier equal a first focal plane optic from a ballistic calculation standpoint?

It doesn’t matter unless the optic has a scaled reticle. If your optic is just a dot then it makes no difference. Now that being said, optically speaking that arrangement would function like a first focal plane scope as the magnifier will enlarge the dot as well as the sight picture.

Thanks, I am using the EoTech 1 moa dot and 65 moa circle. Some of the red dots coming out are using the 2 moa dot and circle style reticles. Strelok Pro has ranges for the circle and lower post. It has the FFP checkbox, which allows magnification, but didn't know if it affected the ranging. I left it checked, and just used the ranges as is.
