Adding a Ruger American Ranch in 450 BM to my reloading bench happened a lot faster than I thought: https://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=211738

I'm a very experienced reloader. And I'm always cautious about loading a "new to me round". I've already done a lot of pre-work and due diligence on the 450 BM cartridge. And I've found limited "published and validated" reloading data.

Much of the internet info is on shooting the round in an AR platform. This Ruger is a fairly strong bolt action rifle. Similar, but different.

What direction can the MDS brain trust send me on reloading 450 BM for my new "little beast"? Powder? Bullets? Primers?

My Hornady tenth edition shows the 250 FTX with a max loads of 37.9 gr of Lil-gun and 40.4 gr of Win 296. COL 2.25"
I think the pressure limit of 39160 psi is your limiting factor rather than the rifle type.

Thanks Seabee. That's helpful. Buff7mm sent me some load data from his Hornady manual too.

I cast and shoot CB's in many calibers. I plan to use mostly jacketed bullets in 450BM loads, but for plinking I don’t see why these 300 gr CB’s with GC’s wouldn’t work at low velocities:

Heck all I’d need is a mold and some GC’s. I have everything else on hand. If these CB's work in a 454 Casull, they surely would work in a 450BM.

Anyone's thoughts on shooting CB's in a bolt action 450 Bushmaster?

It appears few MDS members have any input on reloading 450BM rounds. In that case, I'll keep you updated on my experiences as I move forward. ;)

Today a box from Graf's arrived. Inside was a Lee 300 gr .452 mold, some Hornady gas checks, 300 gr Hornady XTP bullets and extra brass. Hmmm - let the reloading begin.

While waiting to hook up with my local source for dies I could not resist firing up the lead pot and making some boolits. Looks to me these will load and shoot just fine.

    Stay tuned!

Can't wait to see this thing in action(and maybe participate in said action).

    Range & Reloading Report

    I'm holding the dies hostage. :innocent0 :D

Buff came through and had CombatAK courier the dies to me at this morning's Hooligan shoot. THANKS GUYS!!!

We only had a few factory rounds to shoot today, but all the Hooligans got to bruise their shoulder. We now know why they call the round "The Thumper"!

I'm OK with the first 50 yard target. we were close, but not enough ammo to zero the scope.

Back on the reloading bench no time was wasted. There will be plenty of ammo next range trip. Our bet is the reloads will go bang just fine. :D

    Stay tuned...

    ;)

It is a really nice rifle and the scope is, let me just say, "colorful." (In a good way) It sure is a "Thumper!" I am looking forward to making it go "BOOM" again.

As you saw it's a cheap Wally World scope. But it works fine for the 100 yard shooting we'll be doing.

I couldn't resist. Tourons be damned. I fired off one of my CB reloads out back and it worked perfectly!

Next range trip we will have plenty of ammo!
