Thanks for all the welcomes, fellas.
Okay...here goes...took my 14-year old son to Horst & McCann last Sunday to shoot the new XDM for the first time - not so much for marksmanship but to run lots of rounds through the gun.
200 rounds of Remington/UMC 230 gr. FMJ - no FTFs, FTEs, etc.
50 rounds of Remington/UMC 185 gr. JHP - no problems as above.
50 rounds of Winchester SXT 230 gr. JHP - no problems as above.
I cleaned and lubed the gun beforehand, and after every 50 rounds ran a boresnake through it and gave it a little oil.
No problems with the gun whatsoever - it fed, fired, and extracted perfectly every time (even my former Beretta 92FS - a great gun - had some issues during its first few hundred rounds).
One possible ammo-related issue: the Winchester SXT ammo seemed to fly all over the place - my son and I (both right-handers) were shooting low left, probably due to improper trigger pull, but at least consistently low left. The Winchester stuff was everywhere and, at 25-ish feet, was sometimes even missing the target altogether.
Bottom line: after another 500-ish rounds I'd trust my life to this gun - I have medium-sized hands and the grip fits me much better than any of the SIGs and Glocks I've shot in the past.
