HARRISBURG — Potentially thousands of mail ballots requested by Butler County voters appear to be lost, a county official said Wednesday, and the U.S. Postal Service has been asked to immediately investigate what happened to them.

A USPS spokesperson, meanwhile, said the agency is “unaware of any significant delays or issues.”

Nearly 40,000 registered voters in the county just north of Pittsburgh requested mail ballots. So far, only 24% of them have been returned to the county, by far the lowest rate among the state’s 67 counties. The county with the next-lowest return rate, Fayette, has received 50% of requested ballots.

So 40k ballots were requested, but only 24% were returned. People are lazy, and can't be bothered to send them back. Don't see why that's a USPS issue.

"But, but, but ... " The county official seems to be complaining that (s)he's not getting the ballots expected. Found an article that contains more info, and it contains a bunch of weasel-words regarding the scale.
But this week, county call centers and email addresses set up to handle elections issues were flooded with messages.
Note that the types of messages are not specified. I'm duboius.

So people request mail in ballots just in case they don’t vote in person. Just because you get one doesn’t mean you have to mail it back. Nowhere does it say that people that requested ballots failed to receive them. So there’s no “there” there!

Reporting indicates many are calling looking for their ballots that never came. USPS tracking says the ballots never entered the system.

The story is about people that cannot send ballots that they never received.

Butler County went for Trump in 2016 by a margin of 1.2%.

MIA, my wife’s and mine too. I request a ballot on Oct 5th. Never came. Emailed Election Commission, they said they will mail another. It too never came. Still MIA. We voted Provisional ballot yesterday. I reported it to the Office of Inspector General website as directed by the Post Office. Hope some heads roll, but probably nothing.

I wonder what controls are in place on the sending end where they know the D or R affiliation of the requestor?

My wife and I voted in person this past week. No way would I trust USPS regardless of their union endorsements.
USPS workers have been slacking for a while now, even before the ballots were available by mail.

I would not have returned ballots by mail. I would have used the drop off locations. Lady doing Provisional ballots said quite a lot of people never received theirs.
