Help registering a pre-76 handgun

My mom called me the other day with a problem. My dad (deceased) had two handguns he registered before the 1976 ban. My mom got a letter in the mail from the MPD saying she needed to physically bring the guns in and have them registered to her. Does anyone know what is going on with this? She is very concerned that DC will try to take her guns or deny her the permit.

Who knows what is going on with this?

DC is requiring registration renewals for all firearms registered before 2011 I believe. I went through the process, its a time consuming hassle but overall I had no issues and the staff there is very friendly. Give them a call if you have questions.
