The light recoil of a .223 AR with iron sights and M203 37mm launcher is a solid choice.

I use a Kimber 82 with a Leupold 2x7 scope for early in the season and a CZ 452 in .17 HM2 with a El Paso Weaver 3x9 scope for later in the year.

Never tried shorts in the Kimber and don't plan to.

My 10/22 ended up with a bell & Carlson anschutz style stock, volquartsen barrel, kidd trigger (7oz and 7oz) and vortex crossfire 6x24 mil dot. Sighted in for 50 yards, third dot down is 100yards point of aim. Loads of fun sniping tree rats 50-100 yards.

Definitely worth testing different ammo. Wolf target match or extra match has been a solid "lower" cost ammo. When I compete, the Lapua x-act has been the most accurate out of everything I tried.
