What are the indications that the stock has been refinished?

The color of the finish. And the missing stock serial number. Check out this link to see what the original color of the finish looked like.

    http://chinesesks.weebly.com/195960-letter-guns.html

The 'F' series is one of 7 letter gun prefixes (B,C,D,E,F,H,R) that were stamped with a large style serial font on the stocks.

So you’re saying the stock has been replaced, hence no stamped serial?

Hard to tell for certain whether the stock is a replacement or if it's a refinished original.

If I were to guess, I would say its more likely a replacement, because it would be significantly more labor intensive to strip the original finish so completely in order to refinish it. It was obviously done well.

The preban imports were kind of all over the place. Some had original refinished stocks with serials, while others were replaced.

I picked this up on a whim when I was buying a reloading setup. Thought it may shoot well. Stock and the other serials match. It’s /326\ factory Chinese. Need to figure out more about it, but I remember it can be hard to find info on Chinese. Asked the guy to try and find tube cover.

There's a lot more known about the Chinese sks today than there was just five years ago (regardless of arsenal).

What kind of info are you looking for?

That’s good to know. It’s been probably 7 years since I bought any.

Just looking for basic info really. Date, I hadn’t heard of 326 until I looked at a page with all the factory markings. It has a 1.5 mil s/n

So far there are nearly 200 identified arsenal stamps for the Type56.

Some arsenals are less common, but none are rare from a collecting standpoint.

From the serial number, your carbine is a 15th year gun, ot 1970.

Known serial ranges for /326\ indicate that it was producing as early as 1969 (14th year) to as late the 24th or 25th year of type56 production.

Man that thing is filthy. If you're not going to put it in a Tapco stock, at least run it through the dishwasher once or twice!

At least the bayonet is good for deer hunting. Just stick an apple on the point, and wait very, very quietly.

Haha I love that rifle. If I ever get bored I may try the apple thing. That’s what hunting blinds are for.

What’s a good method of getting cosmoline out of the bore? It’s been heated and shot, cleaned with bore cleaner many times, but that stuff won’t come out!

Non-chlorinate brake cleaner and a nylon brush. If it’s still not coming out, it’s not cosmoline that’s in there...
