I saw one at the Dulles show today. I know they're long blowback just like the Auto 5. They were asking $800 for what appeared to be a pretty run of the mill 81. Is that how much they're going for? Or was that wishful thinking on the part of the dealer? This is the same table that wanted $400 for a Batavia 24" SxS with a dented left barrel...

There are deluxe grades of 8s and 81s that might get to that price point if condition were VG to excellent. Most that I see sell below $800 as it's harder to find one in prime condition. They tended to be well used and usually have seen a hard life.
They can also be a tough sell as many of the cartridges used in them are obsolete and require reloading if you want to use them in the field. A cool design, always had a soft spot for them.

Thanks Mawkie! Seemed high give the condition. It wasn't in bad shape by any means, but it was well used. I'll keep my eyes out on auctions and the like. Ever since I got my Savage 720, I've decided I need a long-recoil firearm in each category (Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol).

I don't even shoot shotguns that often, but I have decided I "need" a greener gp12 and an old browning auto five.
