SEC. 1A. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes the fundamental right of the people to acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer, and use arms for all legitimate purposes. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.

This has to get through 2 years in a row, then go before the voters before it becomes part of their Constitution. They are only 1 of 6 states that have no RKBA amendment in their Constitution.

So they think "strict scrutiny" will save the right from judicial predation, do they? How naive ...

    Now, if they said that:

    • any law which governs any aspect of the right must have been passed with 90% of the legislature voting in approval (those who abstain would be counted as voting against it), and
    • any state resident can call for a referendum vote on the law in question, and more than 90% of the eligible voting population must vote in favor of the law for it to survive (abstinence counts as a vote against the law)

then they'd have something that truly protects the right.

We finally go suppressors through last year. I'm thrilled about that.

Our neighbors to the North (Minnesota) are trying to become more like California, however.
