    Hey, everyone,
I have seen people on YouTube filing down parts of the pmags to be able to nore easily accept 300 blackout ammo. Has anyone had any success with this? Or would it only be neccessary for subsonic ammo?

The older pmags had issues with the 300 blackout but I’m sure they have been remedied

Not sure if they have changed, but there are internal ribs that clear the 5.56 bullets, but not the 30 cal projectiles.

I have filed down the side rails and they work fine. I measured some Lancers I have that Wilson modified and the side rails measure .135.

I did notice two things when playing with these mags. 1 The COAL can be longer with the Lance mags and 2, the magpul mags seem to slow down the bolt carrier. Since I notice no difference between any mags in 5.56, I can only think it is because the 300 BO has less gas volume ( I have carbine gas) than the .223 ammo. In any case, Lancer mags are well made just not as available as Magpul.

Gen 3 supposedly fixed this. Had an issue in the SCAR 16 also, with Gen 2 or older PMags. My Gen 3’s work perfectly in my SCAR and my Radical Arms 300 BO. At least so far.......

I use troy battlemags for the 300blk. They are different enough externally to keep me from mixing up my 5.56 and 300blk mags in defense or at the range. The troy mags also have a reduced rib that doesn't d!ck with the staggering of the blackout like the magpul mags do...especially with subsonics. I don't use 10 rnd mags in ARs because they are stupid.

Curious why they are still producing the 300 bo pmags if the gen 3s work.

I think because they sre marketing their 300 blackout pmags as "safe" because they have a different groove pattern and feel different so you would be less likely to put a 300 blackout in a 5.56 upper.

I know....I need to make a field trip to the nearest DE shop but I have been procrastinating. The nearest gun store has said for the past 2 months they have been out of all ar15 magazines.
(This was over the phone because I didnt want to go up there just for nothing)

Part of it is that the exterior is different to sight and touch.

To help avoid firing .300 BO in a .223 rifle. NOT good.

When I buy mags for 300 BO I pick up Lancer. No problem with feeding and they are different enough that you know not to put it into a.556 rifle. Then just for safety sake I put a band on it that identifies it as being 300 BO. A little over cautious maybe but it works for me.

The Magpul 300 Blackout mags are a bit different than the standard mags. Some bullets will feed fine from the standard mags but a lot of them do not. I would say get the mags made for the 300 Blackout if you have one.

I have tried a number of 10 round standard mags with the 300 Blackout and most work OK. You will have to try them in yours with your ammo to be sure.

The bullet length and shape is the real issue. If you shoot the Barnes 120's, they will work in just about any mag. If you shoot the Hornady 150's or the 208 subs, then you start seeing issues. I shoot 150gn lead bullets and the Lancers feed with no issues. Magpul causes the bolt carrier to drag on the upper round causing feeding issues.

That's what I was thinking but wasnt sure if it was still the same with the 10 round magazines. I'll have to try a variety of rounds.
