Some folks in the Swiss weapons forum on Gunboards tell me that my K-31 was rearsenaled in Bern, as indicated by the "BE" on the receiver tang and "3" on the stock. However, the comment was that the bluing, including on the buttplate, looks awesome as does the stock, so they consider the purchase a good one? I know nothing about the Swiss weapons, but when I hear "re-arsenaled", that doesn't sound good to me. They tell me that re-arsenaling doesn't mean much because they are brought to "new" through the process - what matters is who did the job? I have no idea, but doesn't sound like "unissued" to me.

Probably unissued since the rebuild which brought the rifle back to as new. I would still be happy with it as like new K31's whether rearsenaled or factory new have been scarce over the years.

Based on its condition, in particular the fact that the internals are spotless and show no signs of wear, and all matching numbers, my guess is that it was simply inspected and stamped. It doesn't really matter to me - just learning.

What is interesting to me, though, is the way that the same characteristic on one rifle means something totally different on another rifle. Typically, at least with Mausers, the fact that a rifle has been re-arsenaled usually guarantees that you're taking a haircut on value. As I'm learning with the Swiss rifles, the fact that a rifle has been re-arsenaled doesn't necessarily mean much. SO MUCH to learn. That's why I'm trying (not working too well) to stick with only a few types of rifles.

Does the stock match? It is interesting too the yours had the Swiss courtouche in the stock but some of the others in the thread didn't. No idea if that means anything or not.

Okay. I haven't taken it apart. I will do so tonight.

So, the stock matches. Honestly, this thing is perfect.
