I've got a few panhead machine screws, Phillips head, I want to blue. I believe they are galvanized but I'm not sure.

I degreased the head of one with alcohol and applied some 44/40 and it worked great except on the slots in the head. I tried working the patch down into those and made some headway but the bottom is still shiny.

I was wondering if putting them headend down into some and letting them soak overnight would give any better results?

    Thanks.

Fold up some emery paper and work it back and forth in the slot.

Degrease with acetone the same way.

A fifteen minute soak in bluing is all you should need.
