For the past couple of days we've had almost summer-like temps in Deep Creek. It's been great!

If you're in the area, be mindful we share the mountains with our local wildlife. The bears and other critters like spring too. They are out and looking for food.
There were several bears cruising the Wisp Resort today. Below are a few screen shots from Facebook videos. And there were some bear cubs seen too.

Just remember, it ain't a petting zoo out here. These guys aren't Yogi and BooBoo. And it should go without saying, but:

Had a retirement job (volunteer) with the Park Service in GSMNP.

Bottom line was answering questions (often inane) AND keeping tourons away from the animals...

Great PSA on bears being out and about. They may look cuddly. They ain't. They are entirely unpredictable. They can move incredibly fast on all four legs. Take nothing for granted around them.

    Be well. Stay safe.

A mama & 2 cubs were spotted a couple miles from me at Friendship Valley Elementary School yesterday, just south of Westminster. No word on where they went.

The local bears are being sighted around here south of Westminster. I saw one yesterday on Kate Wagner Rd., stopped by the nearest house & the woman said they've been seeing them all week. She even got startled by one of the cubs in her front yard. Another sighting was close to the Ag Center.
