Look for a new or used 11-87 Sportsman.

Many years ago, when my youngest son was 7 or 8, he wanted to start shooting clay birds at the sportsman's club.

My beloved wife chimed in, and said that she wanted to shoot, also.

So, the next day, I went out and bought an 870 "Yout" (spelling intentional) in 20 ga for the son to use, and an 11-87 "Youth" Sportsman in 20 ga. for the wife.

I found that the Remington 742 and 760 style centerfire rifles have the same stock size/shape as the 20 ga 870/1100/11-87.

I bought a wooden buttstock for the 742 at a gunshow (Showplace Arena) and cut it to fit my (then) small son.
IF memory serves me, I paid $10 or so, for that extra buttstock.

I had to make a buttstock screw that would work on the new 'shortened' stock, and cut a new recoil pad to fit it.

Final thought................ Ya know..... my beloved wife has NEVER fired that 11-87 "Youth" gun!

Benelli M2 20gauge. You won’t regret it. I believe they have a youth stock available too.

Are there any local shops that stock the Tristar G2's? I'm interested in getting one for my wife and would like to see it up close before ordering/purchasing.

I think that Walmart carries a version of the Tristar but I can't remember which. A place like Green Top in Virginia or Shyda's in Lebanon, Pa may have them in stock but I doubt you will find a Maryland dealer with them as most stores are too small to carry a big variety of long guns. I know that Bass Pro and Cabelas don't carry them.

The best thing to do is order it from Buds. If you don't like it, send it back.

I am in Westminster, in Carroll County. I have the 12G Viper G2 silver shotgun. Beautiful gun, easy to service, so far been great. Walmart sells the Raptor (at least the ones I have been to.), and it is made by a different manufacturer. If I recall the G2 Viper is made by Armsan. I am not home so I'd have to double check. If you get to Westminster any and want to look at mine, and check it out, just shoot me a PM.

Thank you John and Sirex for your feedback. I've looked at the websites for the shops noted and I don't believe that they stock the Vipers. Based on the comments in this thread and the reviews that are online, I will probably just order it online. Leaning towards the Viper G2 Silver.

Tristars at Walmart tend to be the "Raptor" line. I have one and am pleased as punch with it. It'll knock down clays and birds both with ease and it's run flawlessly for me so far. Light weight, easy to break down and clean, and thus far, very dependable. I paid something like $280 for it on sale last year. Needed a "cheap" 12ga for float-hunting ducks and geese on the Monocacy so that if I flipped, I wouldn't be losing one of my classic semis.

I know this thread is getting stale, but I agree with all that say
    Tri-star G2, Winchester SX3, etc. I went with the SX3. Its fantastic.
I'd add the Weatherby SA-20 as a very good buy as well thats under the prices of the Winchester/Browning.

MY list of buy on 20Ga Semi's would be (in decreasing price order):
Benelli Montefeltro (runs super clean with the inertia system!)
    Browning Silver
    Winchester SX3
    Weatherby SA-20
    Tristar G2

    Used Rem 1100
    Used Rem 1187
    Used Win SX2/SX3

Wouldn't by anything in the $ range. (or off my own list!)
