  • Yup, I got sick of the sharp edge of the rear sight on my M&P Shield cutting into my spare tire. I looked into an aftermarket rear sight and said eff it- might as well try...
I used a felt attachment and polishing compound to smooth the sharp edges for 20 minutes. Then, wait for it....

I used a Sharpie to cover the polished steel.
(Why not try before buying a replacement anyway- it worked)

Brownells sells Birchwood Casey cold bluing chemicals. I needed to cut down an aluminum picatinny rail, and I bought the small bottle of cold bluing chemical for aluminum and it worked quite nicely.

Oxpho Blue. Better wear than any other cold bluing.

I figure a tool is a tool and if used properly is a good thing. Any tool can be used to abuse by a fool. It can also be used to create art.
I wonder if wheelwrights cried when the wood lathe came into use because it wasn't a spoke shave?

... but like wielding a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I was a trained Ordnanceman. if you can't fix it with the hammer you've got, get a BMF Hammer and more Ordnance Tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111
