Pre SB281 rifle reconfiguration?

I have a match AR rifle, purchased pre-SB281 that has a heavy barrel WOA barrel on it and a standard rifle stock.

Is it a go or a no go to build a M4 upper and turn it into a standard profile carbine with a collapsible stock?

I'm not even sure I want to do that, but I'd like to know my options.

I would think if it's a pre-SB281 you should be okay to put whatever on there. But not 100% sure.

Never mind...I see a similar thread and the answer is no, since it was purchased cash & carry as an HBAR and not a regulated firearm at the time.
