MoCo CLEO sign off on NFA

Has anyone got any recent experience getting NFA through the Montgomery County chief LE for sign off? Is s\he class III friendly? How long is the wait? Lots of red tape?

Do I need to write an essay?

The Maryland State Police sign off on your Form 1 or Form 4. It normally takes 4-5 weeks. Don't waste your time with the CLEO in MoCo.

Not sure, but I don't think they will. Get MSP to sign off or get an NFA trust, or wait 5 months until the ATF rule change and then you won't need CLEO sign off.

I had a form 4 that sat on Chief Manger's desk for 7 weeks waiting on his signature. This was a little over a year ago. I don't if he was just busy at the time, or if anything has changed. There was no "red tape" (no more than than the typical NFA red tape), just a long wait. You might want to check with the Sheriff, or just go to MSP Pikesville.

Manger doesn't like firearms. You don't need the CLEO signature anymore or has that EO not taken effect?

I think it is about 5 more months until the rule takes effect.

Becomes effective mid-July (I forget the exact date). 'Til then, CLEO sign-off's still a requirement for individual applicants.
