Made the long drive up into Central PA to pick up the two latest auction finds. This one is a 1915 dated Webley MKVI in .455 Webley. It's New Zealand property marked which makes it probable that it served in the Middle East in WWI. There is a unit mark on the back strap so I've got some homework to do.
Sadly the cylinder SN is non matching but hasn't been milled for .45 ACP so it's still a keeper as these are so difficult to find and getting expensive. The original SN is an oddity: 54321. At first I thought it was an auction house goof but when I picked it up the first thing I did was go to the SN and damned if it wasn't correct after all!
Finish is correct and original, she's honest through and through. Seen quite a bit of history in the 102 years since it left the Webley factory.

The fact that it's a consecutive number sequence. Nice grab overall though Mawkie, those are fun pistols to shoot.

25 yrs ago I got a shaved MKVI from the estate of a local gun shop owner. That's been my shooter for all these years. Just load up .45 AR or .45ACP to the correct pressure and slap 'em into half moon clips. The handgun world's equivalent to the SMLE. Rugged and has enough accuracy and power to get the job done.
