I looked for a titled thread but had no luck. Been casting for a while and want to try powder coating. i've read HF, toaster oven, some high tech coating.

Can someone point me to the bible of coating!
    Thanks

More like, "More than you could read in a year." A month ago or so, I was reading about the plating on Cast Boolits. One enterprising individual seemed to have his home-built boolit plating system working quite well. He built it to supply his MGs.

I do both powder coat (dry tumble with plastic BB's) and hi-tek coating on my casts. The dry tumble powder coat is the quickest, but I really like the hi-tek coating results. Both eliminate leading for me and I have shot them in everything from pistols to my 308 AR's.

As mentioned, CastBoolits is the place to research this..

I use a small toaster oven, scavenged from the kitchen, a pyrometer to monitor temps and the rest I do on a bench with a couple of tupperware plastic containers. The results are impressive!

Let me know if you have any questions, glad to help you out! ;)

Don't try dry tumbling with high humidity levels or the paint won't stick well. I use the tumble and bake method on all my lead calibers (14) and haven't used my SAECO lubesizer in a couple of years. I have recently pulled several of my .44 Mag, .38 Special, 30/30 and 30-06 bullets from the berm and the paint is still intact. I usually shoot the rifles at 1600 FPS and the pistols at 900 FPS and get no leading with the powder coating. Since I am cheap, I use Harbor Fright red and white and they both work great.

I have powder coated, plated and used hi-tek. Still do the hi tek.

I have a little D shaped paint bucket that uses cheap liners. Cast the bullets, dump them in the bucket with a squirt of the mix, let them tumble for 30 seconds or so then dump them on the rack and bake them. Then I do a second coat and bake them again before sizing.

I do them all at the same time, to save time.
