That's awesome, I hope you find some great stuff. My grandmother recently died and my Dad put the family farm I grew up in for sale in South Jersey, and that was motivation enough to find the time to go back for about 4 days and pound it as hard as I could. I found so many unique stuff that belonged to various generations of the family over the course of a century.

I hope you find some great stuff. And awesome patch, it was the first I wore in the Army, 8/8 Field Artillery out of Camp Hovey.

When were you at Hovey? I drank a few bottles of soju in Toka Ri (sp) back in 84. I was at Casey F co. 702.

Are you on the book of faces? There is an awesome 2nd id group. PM me for info.

I was at Hovey 95-96, and also drank a few soju bottles and kettles in Tokari. Tokari was most famous for the red light midget, she was an older gal in 95 so maybe she was also famous in 84

I'll shoot you that PM now, thanks.

When I found my first old silver coin I almost passed out. Bright silver in the dirt. Nothing else sounds like money. 1928 Standing Liberty.

I have a family member who metal detects on a regular basis in Ocean City and finds stuff all the time. Rings, phones, coins etc. At times people will come up and say they lost something ask ask for help to find it. My personal favorite thing she found was a penis with wings charm they found during bike week. Their are clubs around also that do "club hunts" when they get permission from land owners. They have found some really old coins worth some real money. Has a nice display case.

They call the police on you at crownsville because it’s illegal to metal detect on state owned lands without a permit. The only exception to that is swimming beaches. Pt. Lookout beach is prohibited as well

That’s incorrect about State owned land. Your confusing State land with land owned by the Maryland Park Service. Crownsville Hospital is owned by the Maryland Department of Health, not the Maryland Park Service controlled by DNR. But if you happen to know of a law on the books prohibiting metal detecting on all state land I’d be interested in seeing it cited.

According to the faq on the md historic trust website, it’s all state lands. I didn’t dig into the annotated code referenced to see if that’s what it really says. The link they have is broken and I have difficulty navigating the annotated code on my phone.

The Maryland Historical Trust is over representing what the code states and applying it to metal detecting wit large. They are trying to take the code and permit process involving archeological excavations and apply it to detecting, but that’s to be expected because they hate detectorists and detectorists mostly hate them. They can say anything they want in their FAQ, but it doesn’t make it true. Hunting for coins, jewelry, and relatively modern metallic items isn’t an archaeological dig and the courts have ruled on that several times.

Just like Anne Arundel county, the Parks director who is an unelected official made a park rule that you can’t metal detect, but there is no Anne Arundel County Code to back that up. I metal detect all over the county, the rule be damned. If he slapped a rule on the website saying green shirts aren’t allowed people wouldn’t stop wearing green shirts. Unelected officials don’t get to set policy on how we use public land, that’s what the legislative process is for which results in codes and laws that the public has a chance to weigh in on and vote people in and out of to effect change.

You will find in each chapter of comar the authoritive statue that gives the Executive branch the authority to make regulations. So non elected officials do make regulations and policy. Not sure how county property works.

Used one to find my property stakes. Was fun and i was dead on with what my survey found that i had to do as a proactive defense measure against my bipolar sue happy neighbor who claims all the trees in the forest as his domain.

Santa left an Equinox 600 under my tree, waiting for the ground to thaw out a bit and start digging up my yard :)

Finally spent an hour in the woods on my back forty and found my first button, appears to be early 1800’s.

Can you share your metal detecting rig? I want to upgrade my machine. I've got one that I got as a wedding gift a decade ago. I've used it a few times and found some interesting farm tools with it, but I don't think it can really get the job done. I want to start detecting on my own land, which changed hands between both sides of the civil war and is one of the areas where John Mosby's raiding teams roamed. The soil is very acidic, so it eats metal fast and I've read that I'm unlikely to find much beyond fragments but I'd still like to try.

I’m a novice but the Equinox 600 seems to be well rated. New units can detect on multiple Freqs at same time. I’m still figuring out the best settings. It was able to pick up that button in the middle of a bunch of nails.

Anyone into metal detecting? Recently got my wear and carry, so now going to brave some of the places I wasn't to keen on detecting, like the woods of Leakin Park and maybe some sketchy curb strips around Baltimore built over civil war sites.

Some pics from Anne Arundel and surrounding counties of metal detecting finds. https://photos.app.goo.gl/DVn8njigg7Rwuw9w5

Always happy to buddy up with any other detectorists.
Were you able to get any items back to their owners? (e.g. high school ring)

You should go over to Sandy Point during the week. I see guys there walking in the water even in the winter. Can it be that people loose that much stuff in the water?
