I suppose this is the the appropriate place to post at least part of my question - I'm a MoCo resident who just ordered a handgun from United. Grew up with rifles in Southern MD and still shoot every time I visit family in TN, but this is my first time purchasing guns and ammo as an adult living in the DC metro area. I was able to pick up some Federal 115-grain target rounds at United but obviously it's slim pickins these days. I made the decision to become a handgun owner for home protection (though I've rediscovered a love for shooting as a sport) so while I'll put mostly target ammo through this thing at the range I also want to stock up on some Federal HST or any good defensive rounds. I've seen and heard conflicting info about ordering for delivery to MoCo, seems like it's technically not illegal but sellers are apprehensive about shipping here.

So that's a long winded way to ask, what's the deal with shipping ammo to MoCo, and what do you recommend given the current shortages? Is there a local store that's well-stocked at the moment?

It's legal to have ammo shipped to you in MoCo. Some sellers won't send to Maryland and some, based on ZIP code want a copy of your ID. I won't do that. My most recent order was with Bud's. Went well.

Also, you should contact Ammo Jon, an IP and frequent poster here on MDS. I haven't bought from him but all comments about his business I've seen are positive.

Yes, ammo Jon, I've bought from him and also look at https://www.outdoorlimited.com/ and https://www.targetsportsusa.com/38-special-ammo-c-56.aspx#Ma38|

and you can validate a good price by looking here, just make sure you factor in shipping on the price https://ammoseek.com/

Thanks guys, seems like a consensus - Shamrock, I’ll probably hit you up as well, if you’re in/near Frederick that’s doable for me.

The Montgomery County law was invalidated by the courts but they leave it on the books which causes some ammo companion not to to ship. But it’s legal and many will.

Just east of Frederick but happy to meet at westview (270/85) if that’s convenient for you.

Previously used the Costco lot, but that place is a madhouse these days...

Technically it was preempted by State law.

Same end, it is not valid or enforceable, but still on the books.

I've made 3 orders with SGammo in the last 3 weeks. They are fantastic. Ordered got here like 2 days. Order Monday night and got here Thursday.

SGammo is my go-to for stuff AmmoJon doesn't stock.

If I lived closer to Frederick or Baltimore, I would use one of the IPs active here.

I've spent literally thousands at SGAmmo and Target Sports USA. In a pinch, I've used Bass Pro, and Academy Sports. When comparison shopping, don't forget to include shipping and taxes.

    BassPro and Cabelas

I've recently purchased ammo from both Cabelas and Bass Pro. Neither had an issue shipping to MoCo. FedEx delivery
