    Does anyone buy and keep night crawlers in bulk? I remember reading about this a long time ago but cannot remember much about it. You can buy them off amazon for $55 for two pounds. I’m wondering what the cost, amount of effort for maintaining them, and space requirements are.

    I raised them as a kid for bait. We built raised boxes 12 inches deep 3X6 foot no bottom. and filled them with a mix of vermiculite, top soil and shredded newspaper. Covered the top with a framed window screen. In winter we covered them with straw. They pretty much took care of themselves. 1 box would comfortabley hold about 10-20 dozen

    Looking at how easy it is to get worms from the ground using various methods it seems like farming them as they reproduce is a waste of effort and time. I think either using an electric device or dish soap a day before you plan to go out is a better option. Thoughts?

    I kept them in the basement in boxes like Muleskinner. We turned the boxes over periodically and threw things like coffee grounds and bread in there.

    Getting worms out of the ground only works if the worms like the earth that you live on. It also takes some planning as to get good results you need to soak the ground before introducing the electric probes. I found raising them to be simple and all I had to do was go down and pick a few out and go fishing. Using the electric method is more like work. :D

    As a kid we always kept a tupperware tub full of worms in the frig crisper and can still hear the babysitter screams when I asked her for some grapes:evilgrin3
