Another reason why I won't join the AMA!
I just got this e-mail from the AMA membership committee.

Each year, more than 36,000 people are killed due to gun violence, with nearly 100 lives lost each day. People are dying in our homes, churches, schools and neighborhoods. Gun violence is a public health crisis that demands a far-reaching solution.
At the 2018 AMA Annual Meeting, the AMA House of Delegates debated more than two dozen policy proposals on gun violence and adopted new policy backing gun-violence restraining orders, tougher background checks and better data collection, among other measures.
AMA delegates adopted the following policies regarding guns:
Advocating for schools as gun-free zones
Calling for a ban on the sale of assault-type weapons, high-capacity magazines
Expanding domestic violence restraining orders to include dating partners
Removing firearms from high-risk individuals
Supporting an increase in legal age of purchasing ammunition and firearms from 18 to 21
Opposing federal legislation permitting "concealed carry reciprocity" across state lines
Opposing requirements or incentives of teachers to carry weapons.
The time to act is now. Stand with our AMA and together the physician community can take the lead in addressing this public health threat.
