    I would defend the Constitution and not need to be paid. I would when time allotted drive many miles, or respond directly; CCL/Self Defense is a God given right. The Government needs to quit pretending it solves problems. It is the problem and growing.

    Changes for Indianas carry permits net year...

    The legislation eliminates the fee for a five year license, as of 30 June, 2020. The current fee is $40. The application fee for a lifetime license will be reduced from $175 to $125, or $100, if the applicant has a valid Indiana handgun license. Licenses restricted to target shooting or hunting have also had their fees reduced. It appears the current $9.99 fee for fingerprinting may be eliminated.

    And with the 5 years license you bypass the NICS check at FFL's.
    Fill out your 4473 Federal Form and walk out the door...

    Lifetime? Nice!

    Maybe $20 to cover the cost of the laminated card. Our tax dollars already pay the officer's salary whether they are processing an application or catching a criminal.

    Hey , don't be calling me a reporter , for having NR CCW's : ) .

    *********************************

    Notwithstanding all the sentiments of the way things Ought to Be , there are some precedents in a well known huge , antigun jurisdiction , albeit for Mordita , not official fees .

    Historically used to be fairly consistently $3K . More recently has been variable in the $5- 10K range .

    Maryland already charges for a wear and carry permit. I don't believe there is any distinction made between open or concealed carry once you have asked for permission and been deemed worthy by our public servants to exercise the right you were born with.

    Constitutional carry is the answer IMO. Government employees need to read and obey the rules laid out in our Constitution. To do otherwise is prior restraint on a Constitutionally protected right without Due Process. Which of our other natural born rights can the government employees restrict before we are convicted by a jury of our peers?

    Oh to live in a country that supported marksmanship training for free citizens. Imagine how much better educated our children would be if they studied math, science, civics, art, music, phys ed, and marksmanship.

    “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.” ― Robert A. Heinlein, Beyond This Horizon.

    And who knows, hypothetically, say they pass something like I am suggesting. What if crime rates go down? Gun violence down? Then you try and make the argument that it’s too expensive or something.

    ....I don't suppose that if crime rates continue to rise, you would refund 120 % of the fees collected.

    What's too expensive ? Loss of freedom.

    Like many of us, I've spent a bunch of money over the years on training (plus the fees for the permits) to get permits in VA, FL, DC and NH (that was a waste of time). I also was one of the 365 who had their hopes raised after Judge Benson Everett Legg made his ruling, only to have them dashed within a short time afterwards. While I agree in principle that we shouldn't have to pay for an enumerated right, the reality is that we do, and anybody with a permit has done so. The only way to avoid the cost is to live in a constitutional carry state, and I don't.

    So yes, I would pay a significant amount of money to get an unrestricted permit in MD. I know I'll get roasted for this, but if I could be guaranteed a five year unrestricted permit (no strings attached, like it being related to employment), I'd write a check for $500 today. Maybe more.

    This is along the lines of my thoughts that I never got around to posting. It sucks to have to pay for a right...but that may be the only way I could exercise it. I certainly cannot now :shrug:

    After retiring I maintained 9 permits as we traveled throughout this great country. Age now dictates a more austere life style. Of the nine, I dropped Maine (a constitutional carry state) and Connecticut, a state in which I never carried (the permit was the result of a class action suit I was involved in that brought CCW to the State). As the remaining ones come up for renewal, I will continue to cull them. The point is I’ve paid bookoo bucks over the years to make sure my family and I were as safe as possible. So yes, I will pay for those permits I need. In an imperfect world, it’s just plain wise to do so.

    Just wondering how much y’all would be willing to pay for a CCL in Maryland.

    Granted, I personally believe that having to get a dang license to adequately protect oneself in the first place is a violation of individual liberties, but here we are so it’s at least worth discussing.

    If it were presented to the state in such a way like the casinos... ie “charge X amount for each license, and the full amount goes to state education funding,” (or choose your pick for the revenue destination) ... could that be a way to negotiate?

    There’s already people willing to pay the ATF for SBR and suppression, myself included. Why not this too? Has this been suggested or tried before?

    Two fat calves.

    google is your friend, I am not.
    The vast majority of the "cost" of the W&C license is non-monetary:
    * need for G&S
    * 16 hour class (whats 16 hours of your time worth?)
    * references
    * interview

    The 16 hour class alone costs $320 in hours lost, assuming the median income in maryland ($40,000 / 2000 hours). Plus, you have to pay the instructor to instruct you. I dont know about you but my weekend time is doubly or triple valuable than regular work time because family, friends, holidays, etc.

    I think people people would pay $100, $150, or whatever, if the non-monetary costs were eliminated, like G&S, and the training was made a more ordinary 4 hours like everywhere else in America. I am not suggesting that it should be $150. I am merely saying that the non-monetary hurdles are the real cost for most people.

    Already paid

    I currently hold a VA and DC ccw, and to get those you have to have a clean record, I also get finger printed and a FBI criminal backround check every year, to work where I work, if I where to get a DWI or some other charge, I could lose my job, and or both of my ccw's. Isn't being a law abiding citizen, payment enough? Not in nazi maryland!!!

    ...Compromise is when both sides are equally unhappy.

    ...I’m just saying offer something of mutual benefit.

    How about the chance to be re-elected next time around?

    We've been "compromised" into one of the most repressive anti-gun law states in the U.S. Personally, I'm done with compromise. We offer nothing to these corrupt politicians but the chance of continuing public employment. IF they behave. I believe the Colonial Tea Tax Stamp was only one penny... :mad54:
