Anyone have any contacts near Sykesville for instructors? My friend is recently divorced and living in her own. She wants to buy a gun. She really wants a class geared toward women. Obviously she would need a HQL class if she went that route, but I'd like to help her find a "personal protection in the home" style class.

The Damascus Izaak Walton frequently has training classes focused on women. I checked the calendar and nothing for the rest of the year, but maybe something for next year?

I have attended a couple of courses at AGC, including personal protection in the home. One of the instructors was a woman and I took my wife to the course. It was very well done and we both took something away with us. I don't remember what club it was that put it on but maybe you can reach out to the AGC president and find out.

How is a woman's self defense shooting different than a man? Threats are threats and need to be handled the same way. Or are they just taught by women because they don't want male instructors oogling their ****?

Open to the public, but they fill up quickly.

Good deal, I'll send her the website and have her keep an eye on it. Thank you.

Hadn't thought about AGC for classes, good call. Thank you.

I’m always happy to help :)

For pretty good reasons, she sort of hates most men right now. :)

Apparently an ex took her shooting previously. He gave her a handgun that was too big, with too much recoil. She didn't like the experience, but accepts that there's a better way.

That's the reason I also believe military basic training should be separated by sex. I don't like male soldiers being distracted from their tasks.

Don't have a good contact but look up A Girl and A Gun. Used to be a group of them in the Moco area. Couple of the ladies that shoot at matches I go to started out there. Girls only.

Can't say I care if women want to shoot with other women. Just don't complain when the men say "no women". Ain't equality great?

I got my Chief Range Officer training from Girl with a Gun. Excellent training.
