Just picked up this m28. It is in the right range for a Ski Trooper and has the double sling slot stock. 1897 tang date. It is an old u-fix-um the guy never got around to fixing. I'm a sucker for an old war horse. The heal of the stock is broken off. Been looking around for a walnut or even a dark colored stock to graft on to it. And last a pic with my other recent Finn pick up an m24.
    Still packed with grease.

I've been on the hunt for one of these for years. Watched the GB auction where you got this one from. I'm not as good with wood as metal, so I never gave this one a thought. Glad to see you got it! Hope the furniture repairs go well.
Morphy has a couple in their upcoming auction but they've taken to bundling them a la Rock Island Auction. So to get a nice dual sling M28 you also have to buy a M28/30 and a M39. Probably have to shell out around $1200 or more. Really sucks. One day...

I would like to find one of these but can't bring myself to spend the money they are comanding.

I have been lucky enough to find a M28, and an M27.

A 28/30 is also on my short list.

I was watching that auction as well. I've never seen a VKT bolthead, that's pretty cool. How do you plan on fixing the stock? You could probably get a toe piece from a Bubba'd stock.

I been looking around for a broken or bubba stock that matches in color but it may take awhile. The Finns it seams used mostly a dove tale to join toe splices but it looks like they might of used wood dowels occasionally also. I don't think I have the skills for a dove tale. I think I will just true it up and dowel and glue it.

I know someone who loves a good "war horse". I imagine he'll get around to posting to this thread sooner or later. This one has good bones and lots of character!

The double slot M28 is my absolute favorite Finn!! By far the sexiest Mosin ever made ;)

Congrats on a nice pick up. Sir Chad does wonders with stock repairs-if he's still available to do them. He did a fantastic job on the exact same repair a very collectible Mosin of mine years ago.
