Nice, I bet the bore is in great shape.
If you pull the action out, look at the date on the tang to see how old the receiver is.

Hi Melnic. I have had this for a while and i once did look at the tang. ‘98? It was sold as an antique. I don’t believe these tikkas were ever issued despite the 1943 date. I read they were assembled after the war? This one has one of the new stocks and the bluing and condition of the metal is as close to new as you can get for a military rifle. Years back i would treat myself to some of the nicer rifles pat burns was selling and this was one of them. I wanted one to shoot and bought a 1945 sako with the issued and used in service stock and i learned it to be relatively rare, but shot it. Maybe not the rarest, but i like the maroon B rifles the best. I think these, the 39s, are among the best quality mosins.

That's a nice looking rifle. The Tikka M/39s were assembled after the war from barrels made by Tikka during the war. With only about 6,300 reported, a 1943 Tikka M/39 is pretty uncommon and I wouldn't be shooting that one. Not as rare as a 1945 Sako, but still . .

FYI, it's not unusual to find M/39s with Imperial Eagles. Only Sako had a practice of scrubbing receivers, because Sako was the only barrel maker that also assembled rifles. VKT and Tikka just made barrels. Rifles made with their barrels were assembled at AV1 depot and AV3 depot.

    What's the receiver dated?

Receiver is 1943. I think all tikka m39s were.
Tang on the antique mosins are also dated, but you need to remove rifle from stock. Inthink, from long memory, that is 1898 or 7. I bought this on my drivers license, not my c&r.

No, your barrel is dated 1943. Your receiver is dated 1898. There are Tikka M/39s with barrels dated 1926 (you read that right), 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, and 1944.

Theoretically there could a 1927 dated example out there as well. However about half the production that year were stepped barrels and therefore unsuitable for conversion into M39's. Wouldn't be surprised if one popped up eventually though.

Can you name your source on the 1944 dated Tikka M39's though? If its Doug Bowser's book I wouldn't believe that (it has numerous errors).

The reference to 1944 was a mistake. As far as I know, Tikka stopped making barrels in 1943. I wouldn't be surprised if one was out there, though.

Andy, yeah I figured it might be a typo. But with Finns you just never know until one shows up. Case in point the 1941 Civilian Sales M28/30 out there on a round receiver!

Oh, wait!!!! We can go totally by the book and say Tikka DID make barrels in '44 - but for the 91/30 ;)

The Tikka M39s have been slowly approaching the $2K range - which I find crazy.
But I have two I paid about $400 each for, so I'm quite happy

I have a 1944 Tikka M91/30 for which I paid $220. It came with no hand guard or rear band and a mismatched but Finn-matched bolt. I paid like $19 for a hand guard and $20 for a band. I’m pretty happy.

    Vic has a 1926 with a wooden soldier’s tag ...

    Yes, it's one of three known 1926 dated Tikka M39's: 686, 4058, 5151

How much are these tikka 39s worth?

On average based off the figures in my database, over $1.5 each. 1940 and 1941 are the least common outside of 1926 (with 11x known examples each). There are 25x 1942 dated examples, and 38x 1943 dated examples. Additionally, four of the 1941 dated examples are PL marked as well(!).

Here is a nice illustration of the price change that has occurred in the last couple years:

    https://www.gunbroker.com/item/753221017

According to my database, this example:

Sold for $705 on Gunbroker on 12/14/15. Sold by sreisel to Viking1911

Sold for $1,876 on Gunbroker on 3/11/18. Sold by Viking1911 to painter*

That's a nice profit for whoever Viking1911 is!
